Pacific Medical Buildings developing
new outpatient center and clinic
FACILITY WILL BE USED BY THREE NEW WESTERN UNIVERSITY COLLEGES
SAN DIEGO, March 19, 2009 - Pacific Mellical Buildings (PMB), a leading developer of outpatient
healthcare facilities and hospital-based parking structures, is developing an outpatient care center for the Western University of Health Sciences on its campus in Pomona, Calif.
Located on the university campus on East 2nd Street, the new three-story, 68,000 square foot Patient
Care Center has been specifically designed to accommodate multi-disciplinary teaching,clinics and
office space. Three newly formed colleges will be using the facility inciudlng dentistry, optometry and
podiatry. The college of osteopathic medicine will be utilizing the center as well.
"We are very excited to be working wlth PMB to build our new Patient Care Center," says Kevin
Shaw, Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer, Western University of Health Sciences. "They
have been a great resource for us by providing the development expertise that we needed for the
project. They have also worked on a very fast track to meet our extremely tight and critical timing
deadlines, which will enable us to enroll students in our three new colleges in the fall of 2009."
In a unique approach to teaching, medical students from different specialties will have the opportunity to work together in professional student learning rotations to examine and treat patients in the clinic. The outpatient clinic will also be staffed by Western University faculty and will be open to the general
public.
Other servlces in the Patient Care Center include a pharmacy, optometry clinic and an outpatient
dental clinic. The facility also includes an attached seven-level parking structure, and is scheduled for
completion in the fall of 2009.
"It has been a great experience working with everyone at Western Unlversity," says James Rohan,
Senior VP, Development, PMB. "Even though this project required a lot of coordination with the
deans of many departments, the team was very cooperative in giving us input for the programming.
This is a very successful example of a partnership between a developer and a university. We think that
these kinds of partnerships are going to be even more prevalent in the future."
