Facey Medical Group’s 124,000 square foot, three-story clinic in Mission Hills, California is awarded LEED® Gold for New Construction by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). It is the first medical office building over 120,000 square feet in Southern California to be LEED® Gold certified, according to the USGBC. PMB acquired the 6.8 acre off-market site for the new clinic and began construction in April 2011. The project completed in July 2012.
Originally planned to achieve LEED® Silver, the project received LEED® Gold in categories of sustainable sites, water efficiency, energy and atmosphere, materials and resources and indoor environmental quality. Specifically, the team pursued credits in alternative transportation, water use reduction, optimal energy performance and construction waste management. Some of the design features included clay tiles, aluminum windows with shades and a light-reflective roof. As a result, the clinic is 22% more energy efficient than the national standard and was constructed with more than 23% recycled materials.
Facey selected PMB as their developer on this project because of PMB’s ability to perform, create a flexible deal structure, and deliver a cost effective solution during a time when the financial market was in serious disarray. Facey has a long term strategic relationship with PMB, currently serving as an anchor tenant in two other PMB buildings.
